Sostenibilidad es sinónimo de progreso. Tropic Gallery somos una tienda online enfocada a producto sostenible, un producto representativo de modernidad y progreso. El producto ético és amigable con las personas, con quienes lo consumen, y también, muy importante, con nuestro entorno y nuestro hábitat.
Queremos explicarte un poco el porqué de nuestra elección como eshop online focalizada en artesanía, cosmética natural y slow fashion.
La industria de la moda es una de las más contaminantes...
La caída de los precios de la ropa durante los últimos 20 años nos ha permitido comprar cada vez más. Tenemos 5 veces más ropa que nuestros abuelos. Todo parecía perfecto hasta que descubrimos qué había detrás de esta tendencia. La realidad es que esta continua acumulación de prendas baratas solo es posible gracias a una reducción constante de los costos de producción, lo que implica graves consecuencias para nuestra salud, nuestro planeta y para la vida de quienes las producen.
La industria de la moda es la segunda más contaminante del mundo, después de la del petróleo. A medida que crece el mercado, también lo hace el daño al medio ambiente. Sin embargo, existen soluciones y alternativas para mitigar estos problemas. El primer paso es desarrollar la conciencia y la voluntad de cambiar.
En la mayoría de los países donde se produce la ropa, las fábricas textiles vierten las aguas residuales que producen directamente en los ríos, sin ningún tratamiento previo. Estos contienen sustancias tóxicas como plomo, mercurio y arsénico, entre otras, todas extremadamente dañinas para los ecosistemas acuáticos y la salud de los millones de personas que viven en las riberas de estos ríos. La contaminación también llega al mar, donde termina extendiéndose por todo el planeta.
Otra fuente importante de contaminación del agua es el uso de fertilizantes para la producción de algodón, que contamina en gran medida las aguas de escorrentía y evaporación. La industria de la moda es un gran consumidor de agua. Se utilizan grandes cantidades de agua dulce en los procesos de teñido y acabado de toda nuestra ropa. Para tener una idea, cada tonelada de tela teñida puede necesitar 200 toneladas de agua dulce.
El algodón requiere MUCHA agua (y calor) para crecer, pero comúnmente se cultiva en áreas cálidas y secas. La cantidad de agua necesaria para la producción de solo 1 kg de algodón puede alcanzar hasta 20.000 litros de agua. Esto crea una enorme presión sobre este preciado recurso, ya escaso, y tiene dramáticas consecuencias ecológicas como la desertificación del Mar de Aral, donde la producción de algodón ha drenado completamente el agua.
¿Qué podemos hacer al respecto, qué elegimos hacer como tienda de ropa en línea?
Elegimos proveedores que cumplen todos o algunos de los requisitos fundamentales de sostenibilidad. Nos encanta trabajar con proveedores, diseñadores y artistas locales, ya que tenemos tanto arte al lado de casa, tanto talento local y estamos muy orgullosos de cómo funcionan estos proveedores locales. El producto de esa forma es km0 o de proximidad, no contamina tanto en su transporte, y así damos a conocer globalmente nuestros grandes talentos locales, que són tantos y tan variados!
Además, en nuestra tienda encontrarás proveedores que trabajan con tejidos que són naturales, orgánicos o reciclados. Productos de cosmética vegana, natural y ecológica y productos artesanales.
Buscamos que la fabricación sea local al máximo o dentro de parámetros de comercio justo, y que dicha fabricación sea lo más respetuosa posible.
Nuestras bolsas de envío fabricadas por la empresa Wastebased.co son una solución ecológica y están hechas de fibras 100% naturales, extraídas de alimentos y vegetales, por lo que son completamente biodegradables y no dañan el medio ambiente a corto o largo plazo.
Debemos ser conscientes de que, en la actualidad, los procesos de fabricación de moda sostenible son más elaborados y costosos que los de moda "rápida", debido a que se utilizan procedimientos más lentos y artesanales, lo que hace que la prenda final sea más cara. Eso nos hace creer que es menos accesible para nuestros bolsillos. Sin embargo, nuestros proveedores trabajan co materiales, tejidos y técnicas de máxima calidad, lo que hace que la prenda te dure muchísimo más que una prenda comprada dentro del "fast fashion industry", por lo que la vida de la prenda és más larga de lo habitual y eso hace que acabe resultando incluso más barata. En Tropic Gallery somos partidarios del lema "menos es más", comprar menos prendas pero de calidad, elegir aquellas que se hacen de forma sostenible.
La de consumir responsablemente és una de las formas que nos llevará a crear una sociedad con un futuro mejor, la sociedad que queremos para nosotros, para nuestros hijos, para los hijos de nuestros hijos :)
Queremos animar a las personas a consumir responsablemente, a mirar las etiquetas y descripciones de las prendas, dónde se han fabricado, si ha sido mediante comercio justo o no, quién fabrica la pieza y de dónde viene, si viene de lejos tendremos en cuenta que el transporte generará mucha contaminación, si es comercio local siempre será mejor porque no habremos contaminado tanto en el transporte y estaremos cooperando con nuestros vecinos; Fijarnos en los materiales de las prendas o ítems, de qué materiales está hecho, si es prenda o producto con material orgánica o ha sido creada con fibras sintéticas o materia muy procesada, si estas fibras sintéticas se reciclan o se crean desde cero. Si se reciclan, es positivo ya que no estamos generando más residuos y materiales que el planeta no pueda absorber. Sabemos que esta tarea de investigación suele dar pereza, o creemos que no tenemos tiempo para ella, ya que nuestro modo de vida és bastante estresante, y a menudo no indagamos y solo nos fijamos en el precio, en que sea más barata o en la estética de la prenda, pero os diremos que al final la frase que todos hemos oído alguna vez, la de que "lo caro sale barato y lo barato sale caro" , resulta ser tan cierta! Y que si todos ponemos de nuestra parte y tenemos en cuenta que debemos ayudar a no contaminar más el planeta, podemos ayudar aquí y ahora a mejorar nuestro hábitat. Fíjemonos en que el planeta y nuestro entorno nos está alertando continuamente, los polos se están derritiendo por efecto invernadero, acumulamos una gran cantidad de desechos que no usamos y que no son orgánicos, y por lo tanto el planeta no los puede absorber, la manufactura está creando desechos que contaminan nuestros recursos naturales. Todo esto nos lleva a entender la actualidad, el hoy: catástrofes ambientales y catástrofes biológicas.
Seamos conscientes de ello y cambiemos nuestros pequeños hábitos del día a día.

PLANTAMOS ÁRBOLES
La huella de carbono representa el impacto en el desarrollo de una actividad que tiene sobre el clima, por lo que su cálculo es el primer paso ineludible para trazar un plan de reducción cuantitativamente medible. La huella de carbono es la cantidad de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI) emitidas directa o indirectamente como consecuencia del desarrollo de una actividad, medida en toneladas de CO2 equivalente.
El transporte que contratamos las tiendas online como nosotros para entregar los productos a sus hogares, suele tener un impacto por el uso de aviones y coches que utilizan combustibles contaminantes para el medio ambiente. Nosotros como tienda sostenible no queremos contribuir al impacto ambiental, por otro lado el transporte es inevitable para hacer llegar nuestros productos a todos aquellos que quieran recibirlos vivan cerca o lejos.
Por eso hemos tomado la decisión de compensar esta huella de carbono que generan los coches y aviones que llevan nuestros productos a sus hogares, colaborando con la organización One Tree Planted @onetreeplanted, plantando árboles para compensar esta huella y contaminación, sabemos que esta no es la forma de erradicar el problema, la contaminación sigue ahí, pero por otro lado estamos generando más oxígeno para compensarlo plantando nuevos árboles en nuestro planeta.
Queremos mantener la transparencia de este proceso, de lo contrario no tendría sentido realizar esta tarea, por lo que en este espacio publicaremos los cálculos y recibos de estas colaboraciones contigo.
Colgaremos las colaboraciones en forma de recibos que nos envíe la misma organización una vez efectuados los pagos por nuestra parte, dichos pagos se refieren a la labor de la organización de plantación de los árboles indicados.

The fall in clothing prices over the past 20 years has allowed us to buy more and more. We have 5 times more clothes than our grandparents. Everything seemed perfect until we found out what was behind this trend. The reality is that this continuous accumulation of cheap garments is only possible thanks to a constant reduction in production costs, which has serious consequences for our health, our planet and for the lives of those who produce them.
The fashion industry is the second most polluting in the world, after oil. As the market grows, so does the damage to the environment. However, there are solutions and alternatives to mitigate these problems. The first step is to develop awareness and the will to change.
In most countries where clothing is produced, textile factories dump the wastewater they produce directly into rivers, without any prior treatment. These contain toxic substances such as lead, mercury and arsenic, among others, all extremely harmful to aquatic ecosystems and the health of the millions of people who live on the banks of these rivers. Pollution also reaches the sea, where it ends up spreading throughout the planet.
Another major source of water pollution is the use of fertilizers for cotton production, which heavily pollutes runoff and evaporation waters. The fashion industry is a big consumer of water. Large amounts of fresh water are used in the dyeing and finishing processes of all our clothing. To get an idea, each ton of dyed fabric may need 200 tons of fresh water.
Cotton requires A LOT of water (and heat) to grow, but it should be grown in hot, dry areas. The amount of water required for the production of just 1 kg of cotton can reach up to 20,000 liters of water. This creates enormous pressure on this precious resource, already scarce, and has dramatic ecological consequences such as the desertification of the Aral Sea, where cotton production has completely drained the water.
What can we do about it, what do we choose to do as an online clothing store?
We choose suppliers that meet all or some of the fundamental sustainability requirements. We love working with local vendors, designers and artists as we have so much art next door, so much local talent and we are very proud of how these local vendors operate. The product in this way is km0 or proximity, it does not pollute so much in its transport, and thus we make our great local talents known globally, which are so many and so varied!
In addition, in our store you will find suppliers that work with fabrics that are natural, organic or recycled. Vegan, natural and organic cosmetic products and artisan products.
We seek that manufacturing is local to the maximum or within fair trade parameters, and that said manufacturing is as respectful as possible.
Our shipping bags manufactured by the company Wastebased.co are an ecological solution and are made of 100% natural fibers, extracted from food and vegetables, so they are completely biodegradable and do not harm the environment in the short or long term.
We must be aware that, nowadays, sustainable fashion manufacturing processes are more elaborate and expensive than "fast" fashion ones, due to the slower and more artisanal procedures used, which makes the final garment more expensive. That makes us believe that it is less accessible to our pockets. However, our technicians work with materials, fabrics and of the highest quality, which makes the garment last much longer than a garment bought within the "fast fashion industry", so the life of the garment is longer than usual and that makes it even cheaper. At Tropic Gallery we are in favor of the motto "less is more", buying less quality garments, choosing what is made in a sustainable way.
Consuming responsibly is one of the ways that will lead us to create a society with a better future, the society we want for ourselves, for our children, for our children's children :)
We want to encourage people to consume responsibly, to look at the labels and descriptions of the garments, where they have been manufactured, whether it has been through fair trade or not, who makes the piece and where it comes from, if it comes from far away we will take into account that the transport will generate a lot of pollution, if it is local commerce it will always be better because we will not have polluted so much in the transport and we will be cooperating with our neighbors; Look at the materials of the garments or items, what materials it is made of, if it is a garment or product with organic material or has been created with synthetic fibers or highly processed material, if these synthetic fibers are recycled or created from scratch. If they are recycled, it is positive since we are not generating more waste and materials that the planet cannot absorb. We know that this research task is often lazy, or we believe that we do not have time for it, since our way of life is quite stressful, and we often do not investigate and only look at the price, whether it is cheaper or aesthetics of the garment, but we will tell you that at the end the phrase that we have all heard at some time, the one that "expensive is cheap and expensive", turns out to be so true! And if we all do our part and take into account that we must help not to pollute the planet anymore, we can help here and now to improve our habitat. Let's note that the planet and our environment is continuously alerting us, the poles are melting due to the greenhouse effect, we accumulate a large amount of waste that we do not use and that is not organic, and therefore the planet cannot absorb it, manufacturing it is creating waste that pollutes our natural resources. All of this leads us to understand today, today: environmental catastrophes and biological catastrophes.

WE PLANT TREES
The carbon footprint represents the impact on the development of an activity that has on the climate, and therefore its calculation is the first inescapable step in order to plot a quantitatively measurable reduction plan. Carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions emitted directly or indirectly as a consequence of the development of an activity, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
The transport that we hire online stores like us to deliver the products to your homes, usually have an impact because of the use of airplanes and cars that use polluting fuels for the environment. We as a sustainable store do not want to contribute to environmental impact, on the other hand transport is inevitable to get our products to all those who want to receive them live near or far. That is why we have made the decision to offset this carbon footprint generated by the cars and planes that carry our products to your homes.
For this reason we are collaborating with the organization One Tree Planted (@onetreeplanted), planting trees to compensate this footprint and pollution.We know that this is not the way to eradicate the problem, the pollution is still there, but on the other hand we are generating more oxygen to make up for it planting new trees in our planet.
We want to maintain the transparency of this process, otherwise it would be pointless to carry out this task, which is why in this space we will publish the calculations and receipts of these collaborations with you.
We will hang the collaborations in the form of receipts sent to us by the same organization once the payments have been made by us, those payments refer to the work of the organization of planting the trees indicated.
